Veja
Veja is a French sustainable shoe brand founded in 2003 by two friends, Sébastien Kopp and François-Ghislain Morillion. The idea behind Veja shoes was born during their travels across Asia and South America. Concerned by the devastating impact that the global manufacturing has on the environment, they started to learn about ethical trade and decided to start a brand on their own terms. The name “Veja” is Portuguese for “take a look”. Their idea of sustainability is to reverse the cost and profit relationship in the production process. Forgoing advertisement, Veja offers shoes at a standard price, while spending on the production five times as much as major companies. The ethically sourced rubber used for shoe production comes from Amazonian forests. These plantations help increase the economic value of forests and fight deforestation. For Veja, quality is key.
