The adidas Tennis Hu is a sneaker model released to celebrate Grammy Award-winning singer Pharrell Williams’ collaboration with adidas. The footwear is inspired by Stan Smith’s classic silhouette and was released in May 2017.

The adidas sneaker combines elements of traditional tennis shoes with modern aesthetics, making it a versatile addition to any sneaker collection.

The Tennis Hu concept was first introduced during a meeting between Pharrell Williams and Stan Smith at the US Open in 2016. The creation was part of the musician’s vision of a fresh reimagining of the tennis legend's iconic footwear - the adidas Stan Smith.

The sneakers paid homage to the legendary player’s contribution to the game and reflected the singer's artistic vision.

The initial release featured colors similar to that in the previous classic adidas models. The white pair with green accents were a tribute to Stan Smith, with another variant with yellow detailing inspired by Forest Hill.

There have been multiple variants of Tennis Hu released since its debut. They include special collections like the Hu Holi adicolor collection. It was released as part of the Hindu festival of colors called Holi with unique dyeing techniques to create one-of-a-kind pieces.

Every variant told a different story, with Pharrell Williams drawing inspiration from his travels and cultural experiences.

Features of adidas Tennis Hu

Tennis Hu’s design has trademark clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic, making it suitable for various styles. It features a sock-like construction that hugs the ankle for comfort and support. The one-piece upper is made with breathable mesh for better airflow and flexibility

The silhouette has a low-top profile which resembles the classic court shoes. It incorporates elements of modern-day sportswear shoes. The upper, on the other hand, has Primeknit which is a lightweight and flexible material that adapts to the foot's shape. This innovative fabric not only gives breathing space for your foot but also makes the footwear comfortable.

The midsole has EVA foam for better cushioning, providing a soft landing with each step. The outsole is designed in a unique waffle pattern that enhances traction and grip on various surfaces.

The Tennis Hu has been released in different colors, appealing to different tastes. Initial releases saw them having classic tones such as white with green accents and vibrant yellows. Later collections added pastel hues like tactile rose, icy blue, and linen green, giving wearers more options to express their personal style.
